Criminal lawyers know that we all have a right to an attorney.

These lawyers are defending that right, and the other procedural and substantive due process rights that are available to all of us.

The purpose of a criminal defense is not to excuse or defend the morality of the accused.

I know this. I guess the better question is: Can you knowingly defend a guilty criminal because it's "your profession"?

Using the Trump case as another example in the opposite sense...How can a prosecutor prosecute someone they know to be innocent or purely persecuted?

The purpose of a criminal lawyer is to try to let them back on the streets. Even though that lawyer actually knows that crime actually happened. A murder, rape, etc... they don't give a shite.
