re: It's sad seeing millennials talk so gracefully about not having kids...

It's very sad. Deep down, I think most of these people either can't afford children or are disillusioned with the prospects of finding a partner. I'm 32 and most of the people I know who say they don't want kids would be either unable to financially support them or have struggled to find anyone. Telling others "they don't want children" is psychologically easier than admitting that things just haven't worked out the way that they wanted or planned.

This is the real driving force here. Most “I don’t want kids” people are projecting that because they actually do want kids, but deep down don’t believe they’ll ever get them.
Personally, I do the same thing because I physically can’t have kids. I didn’t find that out until after I was married, and that news was the final straw that broke said marriage.

Quite the projection here.
Most people who can't afford kids have them anyway if they want them because everyone will tout the "never the perfect time" line out. Not that that line is untrue, but there's a wide gap between "not perfect timing" and "are you out of your mind, you missed rent 4 times this year and you're having a kid?!"
We could afford kids more than most people in our lives who have decided to have them, but they would rob us of our time.
But yes, we would be terrible parents. We are mentally ill. Leave us sad mentally ill people alone, our lives are horrible enough for us as it is.
