The black plates with white lettering in Mississippi are the vanity plates. About a month ago, I got behind a guy at the Raymond Courthouse Tax Collector's office who wanted a vanity plate.

He asked and was told, "That one is already taken" again, and again, "That one is taken". Finally, about the time I was certain the office would be closing for the day, he asked for Tubby987, or something like that and was pleased to learn, although 986 other fat guys had purchased the same vanity plate with sequential numbering, He had the privilege and joy of being #987 in the long line of tubby guys.

They ordered his plate and I got my plain old Mississippi tag renewed with the issuance of a tiny little date sticker to keep me legal. I went out on the lot, stuck it over last year's exp. date sticker and went home wondering if Tubby988 was still available. (not)

About (almost exactly, matter of fact) 40 years ago, I got in line at that same place to get my Hinds County license plate for my ‘82 Plymouth Sapporo. “GIB 391”

I lived in Clinton for a year, it seemed like a decade.
