When my grandfather passed away, one of my dad's cousins came in from New York for the funeral. Her husband had a union labor job, maybe an iron worker. He had trouble with his return flight, and if he didn't get back in time, he was going to lose his spot to another union worker. Seems like a pretty shitty way to treat someone. That's my only personal "experience" with unions.
They had their use back in the day, but now Federal regulations have taken over the job of protecting workers.
