I’m simply citing history with Wreck It Ralph as a fair comparison.
Why is wreck it Ralph 2 a fair comparison? What do the movies have in common besides being under the "animation" umbrella genre? Different studios, different styles of storytelling. Wreck it Ralph 2 is in no way a recent movie. It came out 6 years ago. And disney and Pixar have both released sequels to movies since.

As you stated, both are animated. So there's that. And both have sequels.
I saw both Wreck it Ralph & Inside Out. Enjoyed both.
Hated WR 2. Not so much that I recall it being 'woke', just that it was bleak, depressing and so far from the escapism that usually makes for a good animated movie of these sorts.
Unfortunately, Hollywood is enduring an insufferable stage of 'forget the past, kill it if you have to' that seeks to diminish what MOST of the paying public had proven they enjoy. The disease extends to the BBC as well. And there's already been shown clear examples of said studios giving the middle fingers to the fans.
The suspicions are justified.
