The one exception may be 2013 draft (Giannis) but I think Oladipo made an all star team even though it wasnt with the team that drafted him. The other 4 guys were complete trash.

Also, that allstar is typically in the first 3 picks.
The 4th and 5th pick is so much risk. You are more likely to draft a bust as you are a high level starter.

4 & 5 last few years:
Murray and Ivey
Barnes and Suggs
Pat Williams and Okoro
Hunter and Garland
JJJ and Trae
Josh Jackson and Fox
Bender and Dunn
Porzingis and Hezosomethingnotintheleagueanymore
Aaron Gordon and Exum
Cody Zeller and Alex Len (2013 shitty draft)
Dion Waiters and Thomas Robinson
Tristan Thompson and JV
Wesley Johnson and Cousins

26 all-stars in the first 5 picks, 9 of which were the #1 pick, 10 were from 2/3 and 7 from 4/5.
26 out of 65 selections. It's not bad odds if you trust your scouting department, and even when you don't get an all-star there's plenty of good role players as well.

But again, what's the point of this risk? If you're picking 4 or 5 you have a 25% chance you might draft someone who can reach the level BI has reached.
We aren't rebuilding. We have the next 3 years to prove to Zion we can win a championship or he's bolting. If we fail, it's either b/c he isn't good enough, or b/c we didn't give him the supporting cast after trading away our 2nd best player to get to that level.

Because to me the goal isn’t to get someone who is exactly BIs level- the goal is to find a player who fits this team better and makes us a better overall team. To me its main reason you’re trading BI to begin with.

Also you have to consider the trade as a whole. Meaning its not just the draft pick but also the player you’re getting from the team for BI. So the question is can the draft pick and the player you get be a better fit and make your team better than BI?

Reallocate where you're money is spent.

I get that we're an over the cap team but trading BI if it's truly for 1 draft pick and then expiring salary filler types, does free up a lot of money that can be reallocated potentially in another future trade. Again, these guys don't have to be as good as BI, they can be better fits and not quite as good, that's ok.

Plus, as a small market team, where you're never getting a star type player unless it's lucking out in the draft, it's another swing at it. Small market teams should take as many swings as they possibly can(reasonably speaking of course)

Like our previous discussions, I'm not saying this is THE trade that we have to do, I'm just saying that I see the vision. There would need to be more trades in this and next offseason to work off of this one, but I see where they'd be going if they do it.

The other reason, if we were truly a contender "if healthy" then I would be 100% agains this. But we're not. If you're watching the West playoffs right now, it's painfully obvious we can't touch any of these 4 teams playing if we were healthy, and while we can make BI trade that improves the team next season, I just don't see any realistic trade that gives us a realistic shot to come out of the West. So the idea of taking a step back for 1 season to readjust does have some merit to it.
