I understand the melt over the errors in this game, but did anyone realize that our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th hitters went 2 for 17 tonight. The bigger picture: Yes, pitching has been a work in progress, but in actuality, pitching, hitting and fielding errors have plagued this team from day one. After watching LSU Baseball for over 50 years, I’ve seen ups and downs, but given the number losses from last year’s team (players and coaches ) I was very concerned about the ability of JJ to piece together new coaches and players. IF, we make the field of 64, I will celebrate the chance to compete to get back to Omaha. If we don’t make it, I think we owe JJ another year to get us back on track and meet the expectations of LSU Baseball. In closing, I truly love the passion of the Rant and our Tiger Nation !!! Geaux Tigas !!!

You scored 7 runs and if not for White’s baserunning blunder 8 on a Friday night on the road. The bullpen blew the game. It wasn’t the hitting. The loss is on Little, Herring, and the defense.

I realize it was not only the hitting. I was just pointing out that the hitting wasn’t up to par either. We had our opportunities to score more runs and didn’t capitalize.

Yes. And if you noticed, our 1st and 2nd hitters went 5-8 with a walk apiece, both hit home runs, and combined to score 3 runs (would have been 4 if Tommy hadn't missed 3rd) and 3 RbI (would have been 4 if Tommy hadn't missed 3rd). And most games, in your over 50 years of watching baseball, they would have been hitting 3rd and 4th in the lineup. That skewed the numbers for the point you're trying to make

And why did you include the 6th hole hitter, but not the 7th, who went 2-4 with a homer and 2 RBI. Seems pretty arbitrary. I can see combining 3-5 as they have typically been "the heart of the order." But times have changed. And so have lineup constructions

You were right then. I think we all like Jay (well, some didn't seem to last night all that much ), but some of us more positive ones probably were a little naive and fooled ourselves a bit. That team just lost too much offense. This team was always gonna pale in comparison offensively, but with the unrealistic expectations that last year was the standard and would be the norm. I was worried about how many home runs we'd hit, but have been pleasantly surprised there.

But getting back to your original point, this lineup is just not that long, and there's not a magic order Jay can put the guys in that will unlock some sort of super offense that's been lurking underneath the darkness. He lead off with Tommy and Bear to get them more ABs. Should have worked too. But there will always be some 2-17s with this group. They're young and inexperienced (relatively on the whole), and not quite as talented as last year. They were just not good enough to carry this pitching staff when it was the pithing staff that was supposed to be carrying them.

And like other people have pointed out, 7 runs (8) on the road on a Friday night should win you that game. We 10 hits, 3 walks, 3 HBP and only struck out 3 times the whole game. That should have been more than enough to walk out of there with the win. Oh well. Let's go try to keep the season going in a little bit more than 11 hours.
