Backyard sinking little. In Slidell area, what’s best mud to get ? Any help appreciated!

Depends on what you mean by sinking. The typical answer here is mason sand is the best for leveling your yard. In general for a big area, I'd think top soil if you can find it. You want to avoid river silt as it is likely to carry weed seeds that you can't handle selectively (torpedo grass)
On a secondary note, is it a Slidell or New Orleans thing to call dirt/soil mud? My wife's family is from Slidell and they call it mud as well.

Leveling better description then sinking

I always chalked it up to a particular family phrase, but I suspect it must be regional. My MIL would go buy potting soil for plants and refer to it as a bag of mud.

I just asked my wife if it was a Slidell thing
"what... use of the word mud?"
yes
"oh, I never really thought about it..."
Sorry to side track your quest for useful info with my nonsense

Depends on how much you need. You can buy the mason sand by the yard and half-yard at places like Jim Stone co. I believe there is one in Lacombe. You can probably find somewhere else around Slidell that has bulk soils. Some nurseries will carry it, but usually it isn't mason sand. Nursery sand tends to have more pebbles in there. Lawn mowers love to throw those pebbles and windows love to catch them.
It's probably in the $40-50 range for a yard if I had to guess. I have a half ton regular truck, and I try not to carry a full yard of sand at a time. It's too heavy on paper, but I've done it.

I buy a cubic yard of mason sand and a cubic yard of top soil and keep the piles behind my shed covered in tarps. Whenever I want to level I'll mix it up in a wheelbarrow and dump and rake. Mixture depends on the spot, usually 50/50, but sometimes I'll so 100% sand.
