I wouldn't give much thought to someone with a non-STEM degree from these places (not that MIT has many if any, AFAIK), other than assuming they're extremely intelligent or bonkers rich, if not both. They're likely well-read with bad ideas, by my estimation.
But someone with a STEM degree? That's to be considered very seriously. There was likely exposure to rightthink in some classes, but the meat and potatoes of their studies should be among the best in the world.

You can still get some pretty liberal and unprogressive policies that come out of STEM. Even when I was in college 8 years ago. The college of engineering promoted scholarships specifically for either women or minorities to the exclusion of white males.
They held workshops titled “Breaking the glass ceiling: negotiating higher salaries as a woman”.
