MOTU is the first tentpole toy/cartoon franchise from the 80s that I can think of that hasn't enjoyed some manner of renaissance. I know that ill-begotten Kevin Smith nonsense from a few years ago on Netflix should count, but it didn't get traction and the lion's share of the attention was negative.

ThunderCats & Silver Hawks were great cartoons, but the toys never really landed. Not like GI Joe, Transformers & Star Wars.

I think it's just too expensive, hence why it works as a cartoon.

I mean sword and sandals stuff isn't really popular, but adding that in space? Only the MCU at its peak could consider pulling that off, given the cost.
