How do the terms "pro Palestinian group " and "nonviolent demonstrators" balance with each other?

What I was told is that one can feel bad for the poor Palestinian people who are stuck in Gaza and have nowhere to go (who are not members of Hamas) and that is being pro Palestinian. Apparently big difference in being pro Palestinian and pro Hamas. It was what I was told by someone smarter than me. I don’t claim to know if that is correct or not.
