they werent given anything that they wouldnt have gotten eventually. if one of them hadnt made a monkey noise, then the media would have deep-dived into every single one of their social media histories until they found the one time that one of them in ninth grade said something borerline racist and then they would have played that over and over for days with the same exact narrative of racist white boys and the same exact results
STOP CARRYING THEIR WATER FOR THEM.
