No, my position is that cooking meals at home use to save you exponential amounts of money and inflation relative to groceries has shrunken that gap significantly.

It still does, the costs of staples has risen, but not matching the cost of prepared food.

Cooking meals at home, which a lot of young people do now for health reasons, used to generate a higher return for your monthly cash flow than it does today.
They should be doing it for economical reasons. Stats show that younger generation eats out 30% more often than any generation prior.

Didn't say that it wasn't, just that you are getting less return than you used to relative to your budget.

Other studies, like the one posted earlier in this thread also state that more millennials are cooking at home due to health reasons and are cooking an average of 5-6 times per week.

Also the "don't eat out" line is not an apples to apples comparison for a variety of reasons. There was a time when a man could go to work with a high school education and support his family while his wife stayed home. She had ample time to cook the meals, clean the house, and bring the kids to and from school. The man would come home from work and have a meal already prepped because the wife had time to prepare the meal throughout the afternoon.

Now both spouses have to work to scrape by and do not get home until 6:00 at night. Sorry that these lazy millennials don't have time to make a 4 hour meal in 45 minutes. It's not long after that that it's time for baths and getting the little ones ready for bed. And that doesn't account for the folks who have multiple jobs to keep up with inflation because they've essentially taken 10-15% inflation pay cuts year over year.

Growing up in a generation where a man could make 40k a year and support a family of five while his wife didn't have to work and comparing that to today's economic climate is disingenuous at best and deceitful at worst. We all wish we could make enough to have our wives stay home and june cleaver it up for us but the economic conditions do not allow that............

WHICH IS THE ENTIRE POINT THAT WE'RE MAKING!
