Baw. If you approached 100 random people on the street and asked them if they knew what book / movie Sauron, Gollum, and Frodo were in vs Luke , Vader, Leia, and Hans, you know that Star Wars would instantly be recognized by almost
Everyone. Not so much for
LOTR. Snap back to reality.

Sharon?

EDIT: Was that auto corrected from Sauron? I mean, maybe Darth Vader may be in the more common vernacular as pure evil… but Sauron would clearly be the #2 most instantly known as that at worst under Vader or Satan. And Vader has been undermined with that given his arc, to where I still think Sauron would be the character most instantly identifiable as evil that people would say.

And the One Ring is the most obvious metaphor to the temptation and destruction of power. It’s just brilliant where that symbolism will stand the test of time where no matter what ultimate power is there, it will always be embodied by the One Ring.

Not only this but people still dress up like Vader, etc for Halloween. I can ask my 13 year old daughter if she knows Darth Vader and she would say yes. Sauron? Not a clue.

Also, Star Wars is an actual trilogy. LOTR is a 3 book compilation who had the luxury to be filmed all at one time by the same director.

I love both and I don't see the need to compare or shite on one or the other.
