JFK didn’t trust the military brass, particularly after Bay of Pigs, while LBJ slobbered their knob and took their word as gold. There is zero chance Vietnam ends up the same way it JFK isn’t blown away.

But the answer to this question is the string of Presidents between the end of the Mexican War and the beginning of the Civil War. Their weakness and ineptness is what allowed the country to split apart. Fillmore, Piece Buchanan. Also Buchanan was the first homo President.
