The problem is the elementary schools want you to invite all the kids or zero kids.
I understand this being an issue. We didn't do the whole class invite. My son didn't want to invite everyone, he just wanted one or two friends to be there. We already know their parents do we just told them what we were doing. Didn't ask for presents, just a few hours for the kids to play.

Had my daughter’s birthday party at the house today. 10:30-12:30 and then politely GTFO my house. Have done the afternoon parties and it turns into an all day event. The pre-nap morning party is the way to go. Provided food and mimosas for the parents.
Mine have outgrown bday parties at the house. Makes me miss them. We'd eventually just turn them into grownup parties anyway. Those were the days.
