Re-gelcoating is a big job. Gelcoat doesn’t spray slick like paint, unless you use additives (Duratec Hi-gloss). Even with that it requires a good bit of post cure finishing and polishing.
Refinishing (wet sand/ polish) is good. But you got to maintain it religiously. And keep the sun exposure to a minimum. Gelcoat can be a bitch to maintain. Any sun exposure just eats it alive. Even if you wax it pretty often.
Gelcoat is tougher than paint. But doesn’t hold up near as well as paint to UV. Wraps are an option.

We had our boat sanded and painted with Awlgrip. Maybe not as “tough” as gelcoat, but it was 1000000 times easier to keep clean. And looked brand new with just a quick spray down.
