Sucks. Had to put down my 9 year old golden A month ago . lymphoma in her back hind leg.. damn tumor grew like a wildfire and burst in a week.. lasted another 3 weeks before she became septic and we put her down. Vet said she’d only seen one other tumor blow up so fast and aggressive

Ugh.

No symptoms at all to limping and a little swelling and got an X-ray… cancer and minor fracture from the weakened bone.

Either put her down immediately or try amputation and treatment for an estimated 12-18 months.

Pet insurance paying most, and a lot of feedback from folks that tried the surgical route talked us into entertaining amputation. Feels like I’m on borrowed time every day for better and worse. Amazing how fast they adapt though. She was up and walking - could even do stairs - about 30 hours after surgery.

The biggest thing was that there was a high likelihood when the day comes it’ll be what was described as non painful tumors in the lung that cause some coughing and we absolutely will make the decision to let her go before there’s any escalation of that. I wasn’t trying to do 12 months with unfair bookends. Quick to get back into life and a soft landing at the end were key.

Don’t know it was the right choice but she’s a happy girl and the family has been appreciative to have her.
