When I played HS football we used to watch this pretty much every other week so still some nostalgia there as well and still a good movie on it's own like others have said. Definitely eye opening though.

For me the movie isn’t ruined. Was it embellished like all Hollywood films? Certainly. But the message is the same and it’s a damn good movie (Rudy is the same way in my view).
If it was the exact same film but completely made up teams and names they’d both be great films and stories. Like a lot of other sports movies from the 80s-2000s.

I read your optimistic OP and was thinking to myself, "yea he's not going to like the comments."
They embellished a lot, but I don't care, I still like it. Was a freshman in high school when it came out and saw it in theatres a couple times.
It gets nit picked too much on here.
"They were friends but they weren't best friends like the movie made them out to be." Little stuff like that isn't going to bother me. But the fact that numerous schools were already integrated definitely is a legit knock on the storytelling.
