The only scenario where it makes sense is if they consider Penix to be a project franchise qb who needs time to rehab from his injuries and improve technique. In that case, he gets two full seasons on the bench behind a veteran starter.

I just don’t understand why you would waste a 1st rounder on a project qb when he probably wouldn’t have been drafted until the 2nd round regardless. That first round pick could have been better spent on their lines.

He had his last two seasons uninterrupted by injury, I can’t imagine that would be it.

If you draft a QB at 8th overall and the word "rehab" is anywhere in the conversation, you fricked up. Now throw in they guaranteed $100M at the same position to another QB to win now (or they did) and you doubled down with your frickery.

By far the biggest issue with the pick. A single defensive player had yet to be chosen. There were a dozen choices available that would be a day 1 starter at a position of need,
