For some, it is as simple as being told do it or you die.

For others, it’s the thought of if I don’t do it my buddy will have to kill my share.


You would be amazed at just how normal many of those who participated were. We humans are a weird bunch and the morals we hold in theory turn out to not hold water when the time comes to pull the trigger.

There's a great documentary on Netflix that goes into the psyche and minset of the German soldiers who were responsible for actually exterminating the Jews.


ETA: The documentary is called Ordinary Men: The Forgotten Holocaust. So obviously it's based off the book you mentioned.
