Supplying arms to insurgents/freedom fighters and then using "domino theory" to officially get involved is a mainstay of IC/MIC/corruptocrat foreign policy.
The North Vietnamese were supplied with AK47s by the CIA when they ran the French out. CIA knew what would follow, they placed the dominos.
