I would argue intuitively that it reduces (not “prevents”) impact of the brain against the skull.

Like a nascar car hitting the safer barrier at 200 mph rather than a solid wall.

Right. Helmet not coming to as complete a stop. The time it takes for the cap to deform should help decelerate brain to skull. Or at least that’s what I’d imagine they’re selling.
