You're saying that someone who bought a house in that part of Baton Rouge 5, 10, 20, 50, 150 years ago didn't think they were moving to Baton Rouge, despite every service being provided by Baton Rouge and their addresses being in Baton Rouge?

Everyone who moved into the unincorporated areas did so KNOWING they weren't in Baton Rouge to avoid the higher taxes in the city limits.

Honestly, there isn’t much difference in taxes from BR proper to what I pay now in SG, but I expect that to change. BR is going to raise taxes.

Homeowners choose their homes depending on the neighborhood, distance to work, distance to schools, traffic, etc. Taxes are not that important.

My immediate goal for St. George is to get more control of some of the taxes I pay, and that those taxes would go to improve the quality of life in our city.

Later when we get our own school district, we will have another tool to compete for more residents and eventually SG will be a better place for everyone to live because our taxes will go to a good school district, good public safety, and a cleaner safer city.

I think we in SG can do all that and not raise taxes. We pay enough now.
