Agree. If you’re not using it daily, making money with it, or just have F you money to begin with, smart money with these things is to rent.
But to stay on topic, start with the brands that have dealers close by. Then pick the one with the best service dept. that usually narrows things down pretty quickly unless you’re keeping it pretty close to a metro area.

Gotta go with Cat. I’m a sales rep and there’s nothing wrong with other units but the Cat is more feature laden and comfortable if you’re going to be in it for any amount of time. Depending on your use I’d also recommend going with a non-DEF model (under 75 HP) as the first thing to fail with any machine is likely going to be emissions related. Also, may or may not matter but resale is always going to be best on a Cat
