Bahamas or Roatan

Taking wife on anniversary trip next Mardi Gras break. Our favorite trip was Isla Mujeras. Looking for something similar. We enjoy hanging at the beach, snorkeling, good food but most of all site seeing. Really enjoyed being able to drive the golf carts around Isla. Which would be a better place for the above or any other recommendations.

Grand Cayman is better than either of these in my opinion.

IF you're a diver it's Roatan by a mile. It's a pretty cool island and as long as you avoid the shithole that is Coxen Hole it's fine. Neither is a place to rent and drive golf carts around. Not at all if you're talking Nassau or Freeport.

Buckeye what do think about grand cayman as stated above? She also mentioned Holbox? Golf cart not a deal breaker but was a great time going around Isla site seeing and drinking/eating. Any other places you might recommend? If Bahamas would probably be exumas.

The only reason to pick Roatan would be if snorkeling or diving was the big driver. Bahamas will have more upscale places available. Caymans probably has some nice places, even on Little Cayman if you are looking for something quiet.

Grand Cayman is nice but not my cup of tea. I do think you'd have an enjoyable time there. Again I don't see it as a golf cart type of island. Isla Mujeres sort of wins that one hands down with the easy driving in a cart and multiple stops to eat drink and walk the trails if you get down to Punta Sur.
Holbox is quant and a chill and relax kind of place. The only downside is if you go at a time when the sargassum is bad. They clean it daily but you're still stuck with it to a degree. Holbox is more of a walk aroung place because much of the island is a nature preserve which, to my understanding is now off limits.

I am not saying that it is better than the Bahamas but we really enjoyed the snorkeling on West Bay’s Tabyana Beach on Roatan.

Fly the extra hour to the Virgin Islands.

Anything else to do there? Gf is from there so we are going and I only sink to the bottom in water

It's an island with great snorkeling and diving. The food at West End is mostly bar food but there are a couple of good restaurants as well. Roatan is all about the water.

Belize could be what you are looking for. Ambergris Caye or Placencia were two high recommendations by a travel agent just last week. Both came with a golf cart rental.

Ambergris Caye, unfortunately, does not have great beaches at all.

That’s good to know. We decided to go back to Turks instead.
