I really have tried to keep an open mind until the first regular session is over. But ugh. First removing citizens right to know what their government is doing and now this:
SB497 removes restrictions on who Landry can appoint to the Board of Ethics
Up in Senate and Governmental Affairs tomorrow.
Right now the governor can appoint 7 members of the 11 member Board of Ethics (they investigate ethics violations, including those committed by the governor and his staff and cabinet members). However those 7 members must be chosen from a list submitted by Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. In other words, organizations that governor does not have power over.
Make this change and the governor would suddenly have a super majority of a board that is responsible for keeping the governor (and other government employees) in check.
You almost have to admire the boldness.

Landry is a vindictive mfker. The ethics board has launched several investigations into him & he retaliates by trying to take over the board.
If these are the kinds of things he feels comfortable doing right out the gate, imagine a year from now.
Many of us tried to warn y’all. When someone shows you who they are, believe them.
