It’s a product of the hospitals working with the insurance companies. The hospitals know the insurance will only pay a fraction of the “sticker price,” but the sticker price is so high to make people believe they have to have insurance or they will be saddled with crippling debt.

All made legal by our wonderful government. A complete antithesis of the concept of a free market.
