It works both ways. But you don't seem to see it, when you say:

It's a shortcut for many on the right. If pressed to it, maybe they'd tell you they disagree generally with calling for the death of groups of people on US streets without consequence.

Apparently, neither 'side' is against the death of innocent people, but they each admonish the other for it.
