Could you have bought an attachment the screwed onto the spigot and had a ball valve.. I use them on end of my hose to be able to change from sprinkler to sprayer attachment without having to go back to the faucet.. I did this on a leaky faucet once until I changed the faucet out completely.

Had to do that the other day until I can figure out how to change it.

Yeah, or I could have just put the hose back on cause it was a slow drip with it until I ordered some washers. But I already had the faucet apart and was already at lowes, and like I said the other one was old and the handle beat up a bit. If it was a newer one I would have come up with something else to hold me til I got some washers in.

But since I was already committed I figured I'd finish it, lol
