People who “just don’t show up” with no consequences, have just been lucky that their name was not called in court to go up for questioning.
This was probably you. They don’t know if you showed or not until they call you to come up so the lawyers for both sides can question you. If they manage to seat a jury before your name is called, they don’t know that you didn’t show up. Still some “letter of the law” judges like to call roll of the summoned people to see who did/did not show. I saw judge Catherine Kimball send deputies out to find a woman who had been summoned but did not show. Deputies hauled her in about thirty minutes later with 4 small children in tow. When asked why she did not show she told the judge that she could not find a baby sitter for her 4 children. Judge told her “go find a baby sitter and be back within the hour. She did but the jury got seated before her name was called up for questioning.

This story reeks of small town hick bullshite.
