These days absolutely. I'm a single person making six figures in Louisiana and still some months it seems like there is nothing left over
Thinking more about this and I'm interested. What exactly is your situation to not feel comfortable making 6 figures in LA?
Are you able to max out your retirement?
Do you come from a wealthy family so don't feel like you're living up?
Are you one of those people with an $800+ car note?
Do you eat out every night?
Just hard for me to comprehend.

I'm in Alabama and I make right at 120k now. I live in a barn after my divorce, have no mortgage or rent and my land and barn are paid off.
There are months that I have struggled too. I was dating a woman and you never wrap your head around how much it is to date now. First month after we broke up, I had an extra 1200 or so in my account from the last year.
My biggest issue is that I am putting about 17500 in my 401k, another 6500 in my Roth and still putting another 30% away to build a house. So my "disposable" income isn't big even with a good salary. My truck is almost paid off but the payment is 675 a month on it.
Living comfortable is a mindset for sure. I like where I am and I like what I do so I am comfortable even though I sleep on a couch in a barn with my 3 dogs.

Maybe you should define what “living comfortably” means to you.
Your comfortable may be another persons hell. Neither is right or wrong.
