Aren’t all insurance cards on phones these days?

No.

While I have the ability to show proof of insurance on my phone I print physical cards and keep those and registration in an envelope that stays in the owner's manual folio in every car glovebox. I am not handing my unlocked phone to an officer if at all possible.

I’m with Safeco and I can put my card into my wallet on the iPhone. No need to unlock. Has a QR code for the officer if he needs more info.

Typically, they take a picture with their phone of your card once you pull it up on your phone.
