Tariffs aimed at protecting American industry from being undercut by unregulated and subpar foreign alternatives are not always a net negative, even if they ultimately raise costs for the consumer.
Punitive tariffs on items and industries where US domestic production is not sufficient to meet demand are just moronic.

Ironically many components of "american made" products are mfg in China, imported by small business that couldnt compete if it required using American made products.
Our own monetary policy has fricked the businessman, not China.
