Going to depart from you on this. Elites have run things in all societies at various levels in successful societies. You need them. Think about the local levels There is a certain group that tends to influence how things are done in a town, Parish, county and state. Whether it be private types like families or long term entrenched politicians .
There is something to be said about continuity even as things change. You don't want the elimination of the Elite, or you get a certain level of chaos like the French Revolution, the Bolsheviks and China....or Pol Pot

Even in all these scenarios... this was simply one elite group replacing the other. There are no "organic" uprisings as you would be lead to believe. The Bolsheviks are a great example of this, as well as Nazis, even the American Civil War was just elites vs elites... using poor farmers as cannon fodder.
