The idea that a character's personality and motivations should stay utterly static through decades of media is honestly a bit odd to me.
For frick's sake, that's the character.
Have these people ever read a single piece of literature? It's like they're neutering everything. No wonder every character nowadays is one dimensional and sucks.

Changing the essence of the character isn't character development. Just because they put something next in line for the character doesn't make it development.
Did you think Luke Skywalker's storyline in the sequels was development?
Luke was the only person in the galaxy with hope that Anakin was still alive within Vader. But we got the great "character development" of him having a bad dream and immediately thinking about murdering his nephew. Where did all that hope go? That completely conflicted with who he was. But that's just character development.

But yeah, they're doing this for character development. I'm sure they won't give her a breast reduction and uglier face too. I doubt they understand the concept of a femme fatale.

The first 3 games of the reboot covered this really, and those started back in 2013 (pre-woke). Reboot Lara was not a collector of things, she was already becoming a seeker of truth. The tombs did nothing more than give her extra abilities, the only thing close was gathering items to make the ancient bow.
They basically already established this and actually did a good job of it. The games showed her being very respectful of the cultures they interacted with.
So why state this now, since they were already doing it? They missed their chance to get "WOKE" credit

I get what you are saying but most of the shite she goes after tends to be mystical artifacts that could bring the end of the world if the wrong people get there first. Yeah she has the random collectables she can pick up but usually whatever she is after within the narrative is the kind of stuff that would never be able to be held in a museum.
