I've posted this before about wasting their time.

A NOLA friend tried this and just said un huh multiple times. He got to a second home he owns in another state and found that one of his uh huh's had been used as an affirmative to transfer his electric bill to a different provider. He eventually resolved it (got back to his previous provider) but it took multiple phone calls and lots of time he didn't really want to spend that way.

I’ve never understood why people go to the effort of talking to these people. The only thing it proves is YOU don’t have a life.

I’ve heard of then doing something similar when people answer with, “Hi, this is Mary.” Then they have Mary’s voice saying her name and can use it for nefarious things - not sure how true or widespread it is.

I get 1-2 per day and they never leave a voicemail. Almost always from California or Texas and always with a different number, so it’s nearly impossible to block them all.

For people saying you can sue for monetary damages, I don’t really understand how that would ever work. The lawyer fees needed to track down Ranjesh and Patel would far outweigh any potential award, I would guess.
