Toyota Land Cruiser owners (airbag warning light)

Not mine, don't have one. However, a friend of mine does. I believe they are usually rock solid vehicles.
The airbag sensor light stays on. From my limited research, I believe it is a faulty sensor or possible corrosion. Has anyone experienced something like this in another Land Cruiser or Toyota vehicle? Is this a widespread issue?
Given that we are dealing with airbags, does it make sense to go to the Toyota dealership? Or a 3rd party mechanic shop can handle it?
Aside from the standard pricing of $350 to repair it, how much does something like this cost to replace? Lastly, replacing it on their own is not an option. This person is not OT certified and does not possess any mechanical or technical skills.

What year?
FYI. You can get bootleg versions of Techstream online for cheap.

2018
If I could help them, I would. Unfortunately, I am not able to and must go the simplest route (and probably most expensive) to helping them get it fixed.

Yes. It was a clock spring - the part that maintains electrical contact when the steering wheel rotates - that died of old age.
You can typically buy the Land Cruiser part for a couple hundred bucks, but replacing it without setting off the airbag takes some skill.
ETA:
Amazon sellers offer some Land Cruiser clocks sprigs for as little as $38, but finding an OEM-quality part at a decent price could take research. Buying a cheap Chinese knockoff probably isn't a great idea.
Assuming it's the clock spring, you'll want to ask any independent garage how many they've replaced, and go with someone experienced in this repair. A lot of independent garages won't touch these, and if they do set off the air bag things will get expensive.

Not a Toyota but I had it happen with an old Elantra and it was the clock spring. Turns out there was a little-known extended warranty just for it.
Toyota has also had recalls and extended warranties for the clock spring so I would have your friend check online to see if the VIN is included in one of those before going out and spending money.

Very common, especially on the early-mid 2000s models. Mine is an 01 and my light is on.

Estimate I got was around $750.

Ih8Mud forums are a great resource, from a limited search it could be the seat belt tension setting it off. I have a recall on a 2018 for the seatbelt tensioner. If the seatbelt is hard to go back in that may be the problem.

Good insight, coincidentally my passenger seatbelt tension is very loose.

After reading more, it seems to be a common occurrence for the seatbelt wire to break and cause the airbag to deactivate.
