In person is a pain. For India I had to mail my passport to the Indian Consulate in Houston. I'm sure "losing" a few of those a year is a good way to make some black market money or something.

Anyway, the neat thing about those types of hurdles is the visa page in the passport always looks cool as hell. Much better than a stamp.

I don't go to countries where I can't just show up as an American.

India is complete online and has been since COVID. Their eVisa system had my last trip approved in less than 48 hrs, and in truth you don’t even need to do that if you are willing to do a same day visa application at the port of entry….

Brazil is becoming a pain in the arse, but India is pretty damn simple.
