My goodness this comes across as unhinged. Almost like battered wife syndrome.
The title of the thread is "Another big pickup for Men’s Basketball". Who knows if it is a "big" pick up? He could be the best PG to ever play for LSU...or the worst. But NO ONE can know until he actually plays for LSU. Point is he may or may not be a "big" pickup. But rather than make any definitive statements of that sort, let's just see him play for LSU first.
Feel free to have whatever expectations you'd like. No one can stop you. I'm just commenting on the OP. No one can know if the pickup is "big" or not until he actually plays. So in that regard I'll reserve judgement on the impact or not until then.
Quite literally nowhere in my post did I mention Wade. Nothing about Wade was even implied. You brought him up.
No. But you shouldn't automatically say he WILL be successful on that basis either.
He's 31-35 (11-25) at LSU. There's not a lot to base a huge sense of optimism upon. That's not to say he can't and won't win next season. If you are an LSU fan you hope he does. But I can understand why many (myself included) are taking a wait-and-see/"show me" outlook.
When Ed Oregeron was hired many were, understandably, skeptical given his only major conf. head coaching experience at Ole Miss was a disaster. Then he went 9-4...then 10-3...then 15-0. After that you stopped hearing about Ole Miss and the skepticism melted away because he had actually PRODUCED at LSU (at least until he program tanked immediately thereafter) . If/when McMahon produces they same will apply to him. But until then most fans will remain skeptical.
In essence it boils down to this...don't TELL me how good you are going to be. SHOW me. When McMahon does that he'll get the credit. But you're admonishing people for not believing in a guy that has given them very little reason to believe in him.

There is nothing hyperbole about saying Jordan Sears is a good pickup.

The fact that people find the need to "temper" expectations is ridiculous. What expectations? That we might be better next year? We shouldn't have that type of expectation? That's the stupidity of all of this.

And the reason Wade is brought up is because these calls for "tempered" expectations or negativity come from The Wade cult so of course he's brought up.

So we should automatically say he won't be successful because of where he played even though he averaged 20 ppg against SEC teams?
No. But you shouldn't automatically say he WILL be successful on that basis either.

How about the Wade cult "temper" their expectations about Mcmahon sucking next year. There's a novel idea. Because they continue to say he'll suck no matter who he signs. This is a one sided argument.

the backcourt should be set assuming no one else leaves LSU
still concerned in the post, very little size and if you don't add some pieces there it's gonna be about the same season as last year

I’m trying to figure out if I’m considered a McMahon hater on here or not. I was trying to point out his game from what I’ve seen. I didn’t mention McMahon or Wade, I didn’t say he was bad or we didn’t need him. If anything I was pointing out if his scoring totals are lower, it’s not that he’s a bust necessarily, it’s that he’s filling a role we need given his talents.

I agree with everything you just said except for the fact that Coach O didn’t find the football program in the same situation CMM found the basketball program. LSU basketball isn’t exactly a recruiting powerhouse for one and CMM dealt with a black cloud of NCAA sanctions over the program the first two years. At this point I think as a program we have finally moved past all of that and he has built a capable roster in which he can finally be evaluated on this upcoming season.

For the life of me I cannot understand why showing excitement or optimism on this forum is frowned upon by so many people. It’s almost like people want to be miserable and anyone who shows a hint of positivity will get bombarded by a dose of negativity. By all means you should temper your expectations … how dare you show support!
