There are some good options on here, but if you want the REAL South Baton Rouge experience and not the typical Cajun this Cajun that:

Find an AirB&B in the Southdowns area. Plenty of them to choose from. Friday nights near the Perkins Rd. Overpass is probably the only actually cool place to go. There are multiple bars and restaurants to choose from.

These eateries are excellent and they are all on Perkins Road within walking distance from each other:

DiGiulio Brothers is a place you don’t want to miss. It’s Italian and delicious but on Friday nights it is bumping.

Overpass Merchant is great with a very cool eclectic menu and it’s very lively as well. Great cocktails great apps.

Chow Yum, an Asian fusion joint is VERY cool and the food is spectacular.

and

BLDG5 another staple in the area which has amazing food and its own cool little market.

After hitting any of these eateries, theses bars

Zippy’s(great food too elevated taco)
Ivar’s
Duvic’s
Zee Zee’s

are all fun place to go all within walking distance.

Friday night in this are is where you need to be. It’s safe and there’s lots of options!

If you’re coming in on a Thursday, I’d stay in New Orleans Thursday and get some of the big city and then come to Baton Rouge Friday. You don’t want to be in Baton Rouge three nights in a row.
