There is nothing wrong with the portal other than fans of the normal powerhouse schools waking up and realizing something happened in this sport that doesn’t benefit you. I think it’s great. The days of Bama, UGA, LSU stacking

It's the small schools that are getting the gutted the most. The moment some talented RB at Tulane or some young promising QB at Cal shows out, they're transferring out the next season to an Ohio St, Georgia, Alabama, etc. Because in the end the smaller schools don't have close to the NIL funds the larger ones do. And that's what most of the players are chasing in the end

If you look at the totals you are wrong. For every “star” the media reports transferring to a top tier team those same teams lose depth. Just google any of the top teams. UGA in 2023 had 4 transfer ins and 15 transfers out. Now, I’m not saying every transfer out is a huge loss especially when these teams continue to recruit the top high school kids but anyone who watched the games can see that UGA and Bama were not nearly as dominant throughout the season. Sure, they won a lot of games, but in the end they both lost because they couldn’t roll stud after stud like they’ve both done for a long time.

And sure, the mid level teams lose a player here and there but take my team as an example- GT. We lost Gibbs to Bama. But we brought in more 4 stars than we’ve ever had including our first legit system QB in 20 years. And we doubled our wins.

The portal will prove to be an incredible narrower of the talent gap. UGA and Bama will continue to have the top recruiting classes in the south because who doesn’t want to get their back slapped their senior year in high school. But we all know they’ll lose a lot of those players after year 1 to teams like GT and other mid level schools offering playing time.

I see the teams up north who have less competition for players closing that gap big time while players in the south all swap schools every year.
