I've seen a few around here grown in those metal dog troughs but never anything smaller. Sometimes plant nurseries have em in 7-15 gallon pots. I'm in zone 8B/9A South GA.
Banana roots can grow about 4-5ft deep max, so width is more important than a deep container. Keep in mind also they are heavy feeders and THIRSTY mfers so you will need to watch them more closely in a pot.
I'd go for a dwarf variety - try googling Bananas.org wiki for more options
-"Dwarf Cavendish" or "Raja Puri" for fruit
-"Acuminata 'Zebrina'" has great color
-"Velutina" is an Ornamental with pink bananas

Acuminata Zebrina
That's a great suggestion. I kind of wanted a red abyssinian but they have very little cold tolerance and get huge. I also already have dwarf cavendish in the ground. I will look around for the acuminata. Thanks!
