It’s really easy to talk about what you would do with hypothetical children. More difficult when you’re asking yourself if you should send your actual son into an environment every day that you believe is bad for him.

You’re making an assumption that a lack of funds is what prevents bad public schools from becoming good public schools, but that’s incorrect. Funding isn’t the issue.

You want better public schools?
Instill discipline
Let boys be boys
Expel troublemakers
Reward good effort, punish bad effort
Don’t expect dumb kids to make good grades and go to college
Fire bad teachers who don’t try to be better
There are a million things you could do without spending any more money, but the public system is incapable of doing them.
You still wouldn’t fix the root causes of educational outcome disparities, but it would make the schools better.
