Arriving Tuesday and leaving Saturday... first time to Mexico... staying at an all inclusive resort, but plan to visit Isla Mujeres for a day
Would like to flea market for some cheap keepsakes as well
How much USD and how many Pesos should I bring per person? There will be two of us. I understand tipping culture is important there
Any do's and don'ts would also be helpful

Oof. Cheap keepsakes are a dime a dozen. Stick to store I guess? There are a ton of options for that.
For Isla $100 a person should cover you. IMO. Not including transportation. Don’t eat at the beach places. They’re more expensive and overall the service is substandard. The beach places are lazy because they know that suckers will come there anyway.

Five minutes after visiting Isla
You will wish you stayed there instead
In all seriousness, have fun, Cancun can be a really awesome place
The peso is strong right now so the folks are holding out their hands for peso tips. But they are grateful and hard working. No cardboard signs on a street corner
Get your pesos from an ATM, withdrawal a good amount and only pay the ATM fee. You will save tons in FX/transaction fees
Hidalgo street (on Isla) is replete with “souvenir” shops and things like that as is the road by the ferry landing. It’s overwhelming to some for being such a small place. But it’s fun!

Never carry a lot of cash. Makes you an easy target for a police shakedown. Use uber and not random taxis. ATM your cash and always decline the conversion. There's two main markets in cancun...Mercado 28 is the best one. Make sure to haggle, don't be the dumbass American that just pays whatever they want

Don't bring pesos. Find an ATM without usurious fees after you get there and use it. You shouldn't need it; been a few times to MX and Central America, and never tipped or bought anything that wasn't on a card or in dollars.
At your all inclusive, ask the person that comes to you at your chairs what days they're working. Give them $100 as soon as you sit down and get service, and they will make sure they're working your entire stay. Beer will be ready, chairs reserved, before you get there in the AM.
