Wife from Tx Hill Country tried for bluebonnets in Baton Rouge for a few years. Bedding plants from nursery looked OK but spindly. They never reseeded. Oddly enough, Bluebonnet Blvd is just a few blocks away. There may have been some here in the past.
The prairie soils around Austin have a lot of crumpling rock and dry very quickly. Most Louisiana soil stays wet...possibly the cause.
