I've done that at the grocery store a few times. One lady called me rude, and the guy on the phone with her laughed and said I wasn't the rude one there (was old enough to be her dad, but you never know)

You could yell things for the person on the other end to hear.
"He's lying - we're in Cancun together!"
"STD Clinic - who's next for testing?"
Or bring a fart machine and hold it up near the phone and let it rip. I actually saw the fart machine idea suggested as a way to keep people away from you in public. Might have to start carrying one. Or eating more Mexican.
