All the metro ATL counties are doing it too. My BIL who is a teacher in one of them says it's because the kids will look up at the sun and blind themselves and the schools don't want to get sued for not preventing them from looking at the sun. Apparently there are some lawsuits from 2017 that schools want to avoid.
This is the last eclipse over the continental US for the next 40 years so it won't be a precedent or regular occurrence.
I'm fine with it. Here, they are all coming off spring break anyway, so it's just one more day off.
