What mistake did he need to apologize for? Anyone with an ounce of Patriotism and love of this country knows they need to have their arse out their respecting the flag and the Americans who died for this great country.

The flag stands for freedom, right? Thousands of Americans of all colors, all religions and all political beliefs fought and died under that flag. Did they fight and die so the government could dictate to its citizens? Some may have, but most would say no.
