Landry is your stereotypical opportunist politician. He doesn't actually give a shite about this but he sees an opportunity to insert himself for grandstanding on a topical outrage issue.

Well he stepped on his dick in this case. His natural constituency overlaps pretty strongly with the LSU fan base and going by this thread they ain't happy.
